Happy Holidays from the staff at Hayward Golf Club! Even in the wintry off-season, there’s still activity we’d like to make you all aware of.

First, in honor of “Cyber Monday,” we’re offering our Golf & Dining Package for $60, which includes:

• One 18-hole round of golf with cart.  No restrictions.
• One lunch or breakfast entrée at the Caddyshak Bar & Grill.

We’re also continuing to offer a variety of gift cards that could make great stocking stuffers. $25, $50, and $100 configurations are available.

Second, we’re starting to book our special events calendar for the Caddyshak Bar & Grill in 2020. Whether you’re putting together wedding receptions, banquets, reunions, graduations, or any other group dining events, the Caddyshak is ready to accommodate parties of any size.

Finally, our Wednesday evening cribbage league is about to begin its season in the Caddyshak Bar. There will be two-person teams, with new partners drawn at random each week before the start of play. Cost per person is $11 per week.

Since Christmas Day and New Year’s Day both fall on Wednesdays, this is what the league schedule is currently looking like:

• December 4th — 6pm
• December 11th — 6pm
• December 18th — 6pm
• Then we’ll pick back up on January 8th at 6pm and run weekly (barring any unforeseen events) into early March.

If you know of anybody you think might be interested, but is outside the reach of our posts and emails, please feel free to let them know about this league. It is open to anybody. We look forward to seeing all our fellow cribbage fans!

We’re also going to be hosting an evening of cornhole play on Friday, the 6th of December. Doors open at 6pm.

2020 Hayward Open Sign-Up Information

2020 Hayward Open Sign-Up Information

In the next installment of a storied tradition here at Hayward Golf Club, we’re ready to offer the first details about next summer’s hotly-anticipated Hayward Open Golf Tournament! The event will take place over two days on the first weekend of June, 2020 – Saturday, June 6th & Sunday, June 7th.

The cost per golfer is $100 for this 45-hole event (reduced member entry of $80). There is an 18-hole stroke play qualifying round on Saturday, followed by 27 holes on Sunday, with your Saturday score determining if you are in the stroke play or match play brackets. There will be an optional practice round with a giant skins game on Friday, June 5th.

As has been customary, the sign-up for the tournament will open at 7:00am on Thursday, October 31st, 2019. We will be taking sign-ups by email or phone call. We cap the field size at 152, and the spots will go fast!

This is an exciting and pivotal event every year, and we look forward to seeing what 2020’s field of players will bring to the table!

Course Improvement Campaign Update

We are extremely happy to report that we have passed our $25,000 fundraising goal for the 2019 season! We thank everybody for your support in this — we literally couldn’t have done it without you, and we are grateful!

Your contributions this year resulted in some significant improvement projects being completed:

• New tee box on Hole #13.
• Extension of the cart path on Hole #9.
• Full re-siding of the cart barn.
• Completion of the grill enclosure on the patio.

Looking ahead, 2020 is shaping up to be an active year for course improvements, big and small. We’ll be unveiling details after the New Year, so keep an eye out!

Finally, we want to let everybody know that the driving range will be open through Sunday, October 20th, and closed as of the 21st for the remainder of the year.

But if you’re not ready to pack it in for the winter just yet, the golf course itself will remain open for business through Halloween, October 31st. Assuming the weather cooperates, there’s still time to get a few more rounds in!

The Hayward Ladies League has settled on a date for their invitational event in summer of 2020 — Wednesday, June 17th. Ladies, mark your calendars accordingly! See below for some additional details.

Ryder Cup — Saturday, October 12th

As we’ve done in past falls, we’re holding a Ryder Cup-style event in October. Golf Pro Ben Kanters and Superintendent Jeff Streeter will each captain a team competing in the following format:

• Scramble (6 Holes)
• Best Ball (6 Holes)
• Head-to-Head (6 Holes)

Tee times start at 12:30pm. $25 entry fee (does not include green fee or cart rental). Open to the first 40 to sign up. We have limited spots available to fill out the field, so if you’re interested, contact the Pro Shop!

ABC Scramble — Saturday, September 21st

Joe Richie’s annual fall scramble event is only a few days away, and there are still some spots available for interested golfers! There will be three-man teams (comprised of A, B, and C-level players, and which will be created by the organizers) competing in a scramble format.

Entry for members is $50 per player, and entry for non-members is $80 per player (cart fee not included). The entry fees will cover a sizable payout and a substantial skins game pot.

Fall Memberships

Along similar lines, keep in mind that our Fall Membership Promotion is in full effect. On Sunday, September 15th, we will be holding our annual Joe Kuta Senior Tournament. Open to golfers (member and non-member alike) age 50 and older, and flighted by handicap, “The Kuta,” as it has come to be known, is a terrific event and one of the highlights of our season!

Latest Course Improvement

Fall Membership Promotion

As we have for the past five years, we’re once again offering our Fall Membership Promotion. Packers 100-Square Board / Fish Fry Reschedule — Friday, August 30th

As most of you will know, this year we’ve been emphasizing our initiative to raise funds for a series of course improvement projects. We’re currently at $20,270 out of our 2019 goal of $25,000, so we’re closing in and looking for your help to push us over the top! And this latest campaign will offer you the chance to take home some serious winnings of your own!

We’re introducing a Green Bay Packers Square Board in the Pro Shop. Tied to the Eagles/Packers game on Thursday, September 26th, the board has 100 squares, and each square costs $50. Each square is associated with a set of secret numbers (to be revealed later), and if your numbers correspond to the score of the game at the end of each of the four quarters, you win!

We’re hosting a Watch Party in the Caddyshak on the 26th, and during the game we’ll be handing out $500 at the end of every quarter, along with $125 at the end of every quarter for the reverse winning numbers. Also, 50% of revenue generated at the party in the Caddyshak will go directly to the course improvement fund.

With some other initiatives already in place, this will be the capstone of the year that will take us across the goal line!

Women’s Club and Men’s Club Championships

As August arrives, it’s time to turn our attention to our Women’s and Men’s Club Championships!

The Women’s Club are first up, holding their Championship on two consecutive Wednesdays, the 7th and 14th of August. Open to all female members at Hayward Golf Club, including Social members, the cost is $30 per player for food, prizes, and trophy. It’s a great event every year, and we’re looking to make it even greater!

The Men’s Club with follow with their Championship, which will take place over two days – Saturday, August 17th & Sunday, August 18th – and which will be open to all male members of Hayward Golf Club, including Social members.

On that Saturday, you can play golf with whichever other golfers you’d like. You will already be flighted, but you can build your own foursome with anybody (or have Pro Shop staff help put you into a group if you’d prefer). Tee times will run from 11:30am to 1:30pm, with dinner to follow play on Saturday evening. During dinner, we will reveal the pairings and tee times for Sunday’s second round, which will run between 9:00am and 11:00am.

We will have a Senior Division for golfers ages 62 and over with a separate Senior Club Champion. So whatever level of skill you’re at, whatever your handicap might be, or which tee box you like to play from, there will be a flight for you to be competitive in! Entry fee is $45, which includes dinner, prizes, trophy, and a $10,000 Hole-in-One shot.

Also, here’s a quick update on our course improvement initiatives — our fundraising campaign has been successful this year, and one of the results of that money is a project to rebuild the Men’s White Tee box on Hole #13. This is expected to take three to four weeks to complete, after which we will have a new box which golfers can utilize.

“Celebrate the Patio” Women’s League Event / Board of Directors Openings

On Wednesday, July 31st, the Women’s League is holding a “Celebrate the Patio” guest event to acknowledge all of the contributions that the League has made to the club in recent years, including the construction of the beautiful patio space.

Also, we’re looking for some members to step forward and be considered for filling positions on the Hayward Civic Club Board of Directors. This year there are four open seats, along with one incumbent seeking re-election.

Keep in mind that the Board meets 10 to 11 times a year, and no board member shall miss more than three meetings yearly and no more than two meetings in a row. There is a conference call-in system for those not able to be physically present.

Couples Club Championship — Sunday, July 28th / Coke Products in the Caddyshak

An annual tradition, our Couples Club Championship will be held on Sunday, July 28th, with tee times starting at 12:00pm. Open to the membership, this is a great event for couples to have a fun round of golf together on the course. The Championship will be using the infamous Chapman alternate shot format to provide a little bit of extra excitement!

Entry per couple is $35, which includes prizes, trophies, and two drink tees which will be redeemable in the Caddyshak for one drink each.

Last year’s champs Brent & Dawn Toft (Net) and Quentin & Liz Johnson (Gross) will be looking to defend their titles!

Fourth of July Community Picnic

 

The Hayward Civic Club’s Fourth of July Community Picnic and Fireworks display is only two days away! Full details are available HERE. If the weather allows, it should be a fantastic evening!

Summer Classic Weekend — July 13th and 14th

The Summer Classic tournament on the 14th is just about full already, but the Long Drive Contest the evening before, Saturday the 13th, is still ready to accept challengers!

Sponsored by Nelson Lumber, there will be 4 different divisions (Men ages 18-35, 36-50, 51+, and Ladies). Entry fee will be $20. The long drive competition will take place on the Men’s Black Tee on Hole #10, making for an excellent viewing area from the patio and bar. Extremely spectator-friendly!

Knockout head-to-head matches will determine finalists in each flight. Cash payout for Top 3 finishers in each division.

New in the Pro Shop this month is a comprehensive Callaway fit cart. Any driver/shaft combination is available, offering you a chance to test a variety of configurations.

Couples League on July 7th / Couples Club Championship on July 28th

Our next regular Couples League outing will be on Sunday, July 7th. Tee times are available between 1pm and 2pm. The actual event competition will be 9-holes, but couples are more than welcome to continue on after 9 if they so choose. Cost is $5 per couple for prizes.  Stop in at the Pro Shop or call to sign up.

And be sure to mark your calendars for the Couples Club Championship on Sunday, July 28th! More details will follow in a couple of weeks.

Hayward Civic Club Benefit Tournament — August 4th

As part of our major fundraising campaign for course improvements (which you can read more about HERE), we’re bringing back the Hayward Civic Club Benefit Tournament after a hiatus of several years!

The proceeds will entirely benefit our course improvement fund. Individuals can sign up, and the 3-person teams will be assigned by the tournament committee. In addition, these 3-person teams will be playing in 6-somes for some added excitement as you keep an eye on your competition.

There will also be a Calcutta, providing an opportunity to be a winner even if you’re not on the winning team. Full details are below. Sign up in the Pro Shop.

Fourth of July Community Picnic and Fireworks — July 4th

The Hayward Civic Club is continuing its annual tradition of hosting a Fourth of July community picnic and fireworks display! Beginning at 5:00pm in the field behind the Primary and Intermediate Schools, there will be food and drink vendors (with a variety of offerings, including burgers, brats, hot dogs, wings, beer, smoothies, shaved ice, and more!), a DJ, and the Hayward Hawks baseball game (starting at 7:00pm).

Additionally, this year will showcase a Little League game on the field prior to the Hawks game, as well as an Ice Cream Sandwich Eating Contest — sponsored by Kemps — at 8:00pm.  There will also be a series of kids games starting at 7:00pm.

The fireworks show will begin after nightfall, roughly at 10:00pm. This is always one of the most fun evenings of our summer season, and we hope you’ll join us to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day!

We are also looking for volunteers to help with working the beer tent, parking and crowd control from the hours of 5:00pm to 9:00pm, additional hands for the ice cream eating contest, as well as volunteers for clean-up effort in the early morning hours of Friday, July 5th.

This Fourth of July picnic was born through the efforts of our membership and is only made possible through the efforts of our current membership taking part.  If that is something you’d be willing to assist us with, contact Ben Kanters at the Pro Shop.
