Hayward Golf Club Patrons,
We hope this update finds both you and your family safe and healthy in this uncertain time. The past few weeks have certainly been surreal and unprecedented, and have showcased numerous instances of heroism and community-first attitudes within our neighborhood and the country as a whole. We pray this illness will pass quickly and that lives will be spared. The Corona Virus pandemic has provided an unrivaled attack on our collective health, safety, and livelihood, but we as Americans will come together to defeat this faceless enemy and move forward stronger!
Now to our shared passion….GOLF. We at Hayward Golf Club have been fairly silent recently as we have watched world events, and felt uncomfortable promoting golf with current challenges existing and with snow still covering the golf course. However, with seasonably warm temperatures arriving in the Hayward area and snow dissipating, we wanted to update players regarding our operational position.
We are currently preparing the course to be open like any other year and are anticipating a helping hand from Mother Nature in 2020. As many of you may already know, the current “Safer at Home” initiative that was issued in Wisconsin this past week considered golf courses non-essential businesses and closed them until possibly April 24th. If this were to remain true, we would support the measure and merely prepare the golf course for the best April 24th opening we could possibly have. Actually, in some years this would be an early opener!
Nevertheless, there is a movement/petition among Wisconsin golf course owners, associations, Wisconsin PGA section officers, Wisconsin State Golf Association, and numerous managers and golfers to open golf courses in Wisconsin with safety measures in place. The staff and board at HGC have already met and discussed the implementation of safe and sanitary practices that would protect all our valued patrons. These measures follow many great examples from other courses in operation in the 13 states where “Safer at Home” orders are in place and golf courses have been allowed to stay open (such as Ohio, Illinois, Nevada, California, Kentucky). If you feel strongly about allowing golf courses in Wisconsin to operate safely and provide a healthy recreational option during this unprecedented shut down please follow the link below!
We at Hayward Golf Club wish you all the best and hope to see you all at the course as soon as we safely can serve you! In the meantime, try not to tear up your yards too much with divots while practicing your short game!
