New Social Membership for 2019

For 2019, we are implementing a new option among the range of our membership choices: a revamped Social Membership. We’ve offered Social Memberships in the past, but this year we are adding additional value to make this membership attractive to golfers who play a fair amount, but not enough to justify a full membership. This could be perfect for a golfer, maybe a weekender or from a few towns over, who plays 10 to 12 rounds a year.

You could even think of it like a loyalty rewards program, because those with Social Memberships at Hayward Golf Club will receive the following:

• 10% Off All Green Fees Throughout the Entire 2019 Season
• Discounted Member Cart Fees
• $10 Club Credit Redeemable in the Caddyshak Bar and Grill
• Voting Privileges in Board of Directors Elections
• Access to Member Events

The price for the 2019 Social Membership is $100, plus tax.

This would make for a great Christmas present for someone in your family or a friend who is a great patron of Hayward Golf Club. Or you could even buy one for yourself, and save money all throughout the 2019 season at HGC.

Winter Activities!

The holiday season has arrived, and with it we’re announcing a slate of off-season activities in the Caddyshak Bar and Grill! As we did last year, we will be holding weekly cribbage and cornhole events.

Cribbage league will take place on Thursday evenings from 6pm – 9pm in the bar, starting on December 6th. It will be a two-person league, with new partners drawn at random each week before the start of play.

If you know of anybody you think might be interested, but is outside the reach of our posts and emails, please feel free to let them know about this league. It is open to anybody. We look forward to seeing all our fellow cribbage fans!

Cornhole will run on Fridays from 2pm – 10pm in the Caddyshak, starting on December 7th. In addition to just the cornhole, we’re adding a dart board and pool table to the mix to provide even more excitement to the days’ activities! We’re also in the planning stages for a “Bar Olympics”-style event after the New Year, involving two-person teams competing in cornhole, pool, and darts. Keep an eye out for further details!

Cash bar and select snacks and food will be available for both the cribbage and cornhole events. We do not currently anticipate skipping any weeks for the holidays (given where in the week the holidays themselves are falling this year), but we will let folks know if the schedule does have to change for some reason. 2019 Hayward Open Sign-Up Information / Customer Appreciation Day Reminder

In a renewal of what has been a decades-long tradition here at Hayward Golf Club, we’re excited to offer the first details about next summer’s hotly-anticipated Hayward Open Golf Tournament! The event will take place over two days on the first weekend of June, 2019 – Saturday, June 1st & Sunday, June 2nd.

The cost per golfer is $95 for this 45-hole (event reduced member entry available). There is an 18-hole stroke play qualifying round on Saturday, followed by 27 holes on Sunday with your Saturday score determining if you are in the stroke play or match play brackets. There will be an optional practice round with a giant skins game on Friday, May 31st.

As has been customary, the sign-up for the event will open at 7:00am on Wednesday, October 31st, 2018. We will be taking sign-ups by email or phone call. We cap the field size at 144, and the spots will go fast!

Joe Kuta Senior Tournament Availability – Sunday, September 16th

Our rescheduled Joe Kuta Senior on the 16th of September still has some spots open for golfers. Full details of the event are available HERE (disregard the original date, obviously).

Board of Directors Election Results

At the annual meeting on Monday, August 27th, the 2018/2019 Board of Directors election results were finalized. The following members were elected to serve terms:

This election received the highest number of votes in recent history, so we want to extend a big thanks to all the members who cast a ballot!

ABC Scramble Info and Board Candidates

“Joe’s ABC Scramble” – Sunday, August 26th

As he has done for the past several years, Joe Richie is putting together another fun scramble event. There will be three-man teams (comprised of A, B, and C-level players, and which will be created by the organizers) competing in a scramble format.

Entry for members is $45 per player, and entry for non-members is $75 per player (cart fee not included). The entry fees will cover a substantial payout and a sizable skins game pot.

Fall Membership Promotion

As we have for the past four years, we’re once again offering our Fall Membership Promotion. Men’s Club Championship – August 18th and 19th

As we roll into August, it’s time to start thinking about our Men’s Club Championship, which will take place over two days – Saturday, August 18th and Sunday, August 19th – and which will be open to all male members of Hayward Golf Club.

On that Saturday, you can play golf with whichever other golfers you’d like. You will already be flighted, but you can build your own foursome with anybody (or have Pro Shop staff help put you into a group if you’d prefer). Tee times will run from 11:30am to 1:30pm, with dinner to follow play on Saturday evening. During dinner, we will reveal the pairings and tee times for Sunday’s second round, which will run between 9:00am and 11:00am.

We will have a Senior Division for golfers ages 62 and over with a separate Senior Club Champion. So whatever level of skill you’re at, whatever your handicap might be, or which tee box you like to play from, there will be a flight for you to be competitive in!

It was a great event last year, and we’re confident this year’s version will provide another terrific evening. A $30 per person entry will cover dinner, tax, tip, and a variety of fantastic prizes that will be won during the trivia rounds. Open to members, their guests, and the general public.

Joe Kuta Senior Tournament – Saturday, August 4th

On Saturday, August 4th, we will be holding our annual Joe Kuta Senior Tournament. Open to golfers (member and non-member) age 50 and older and flighted by handicap, “The Kuta,” as it has affectionately come to be known, is a terrific event and one of the highlights of the summer season!

Entry is $25 for members (which includes meal and prizes) and $45 for guests (which includes green fee, meal, and prizes), with an optional skins game. Tee times are available from 8:45am through 11:00am.

Couples Club Championship – Sunday, July 29th

An annual tradition, our Couples Club Championship will be held on Sunday, July 29th, with tee times starting at 12:00pm. Open to the membership, this is a great event for couples to have a fun round of golf together on the course. The Championship will be using the fabled Chapman alternate shot format to provide a little bit of extra excitement.

Entry per couple is $35, which includes prizes, trophies, and two drink tees which will be redeemable in the Caddyshak Bar for one drink each.

Last year’s champs Greg & Teresa Konat (Net) and Mark & Linda Klett (Gross) will be looking to defend their titles!

Independence Day Picnic and Fireworks — July 4th

Hayward Golf Club is continuing its annual tradition of hosting a Fourth of July community picnic and fireworks display! Beginning at 5:00pm in the field behind the Primary and Intermediate Schools, there will be food and drink vendors (with a variety of offerings, including burgers, brats, hot dogs, wings, beer, smoothies, shaved ice, and more!), a DJ, and the Hayward Hawks baseball game (starting at 7:00pm).

The fireworks show will begin after nightfall, roughly at 10:00pm.

As was the case last year, the Caddyshak’s bar will also be open through the evening on the 4th, leading up to the fireworks show. Our patio will provide incredible views of the fireworks, so come on out! Our lot by the Caddyshak offers easy parking, as well.

This is always one of the most fun evenings of our summer season, and we hope you’ll join us to celebrate our nation’s founding!

We are also looking for 5 to 6 volunteers to help with parking and crowd control from the hours of 5:00pm to 9:00pm, as well as one more additional volunteer for clean-up on the morning of July 5th at 7:00am.  This Fourth of July picnic was born through the efforts of our membership and is only made possible through the efforts of our current membership taking part.  If that is something you’d be willing to assist us with, contact Ben Kanters at the Pro Shop.

LUMBER EMPIRE

On Sunday, June 24th, Hayward Golf Club is hosting the Lumber Empire senior (ages 50+) tournament series, a traveling event that plays at six courses over the summer. On the 24th, it’s Hayward’s turn, and we still have some spots available. It’s a great opportunity for members and non-members alike to play with golfers in their same age bracket.

• Four Age Divisions: 50-56, 57-63, 64-69, and 70+, with Gross and Net in each division
• Each Age Net Division will use USGA Handicap
• $45 entry fee for non-members, $20 entry fee for members
• Optional $10 Low Gross

Memorial Day Weekend is usually the unofficial start of the summer season, and it’s a great opportunity to get out on the golf course!

Callaway Demo Day – Tuesday, May 22nd

We are once again excited to host a demo day for Callaway on Tuesday, May 22nd. From 1:00pm to 6:00pm, a Callaway rep and our PGA pro, Ben Kanters, will be set up on our driving range, ready to help you try out a variety of the latest equipment.  TrackMan technology will also be available to better analyze how Callaway can improve your golf game.

“Roll Back the Clock” Fish Fry Night! – Friday, May 25th

As most of you are probably aware, the Friday Night Fish Fry is a staple of dining life in the Northwoods. It’s basically a cultural tradition up here. For many years, Hayward Golf Club offered a weekly Fish Fry, but with so many establishments in the area providing great offerings, several years ago we made the decision to put our Fish Fry on ice… until now!

On Friday, May 25th, we’re bringing the Fish Fry back for an exclusive, “Roll Back the Clock” night! The price will be $13.99 – all you can eat – and the menu will be:

– Broiled or Deep-Fried Pollock
– “Secret Recipe” Oriental Coleslaw
– Baked Potato or Fresh-Cut French Fries
– Breadsticks

We’re also going to be offering a deep-fried walleye version of this meal for $23.99, but the walleye will not be all you can eat. We will be serving from 5:00pm – 9:00pm.

Also, while we’re treating this as a special, “One Night Only” engagement, and not a return of the weekly Fish Fry, it could possibly pave the way for more down the road depending on the response!
