We know many of you are anxious to hear when the golf course and driving range might be opening. This week’s weather forecast has unfortunately thrown a wrench into our original plans, so we’re temporarily in a holding pattern as we wait to see how much – if any – snow we get in the next few days. We expect to have a much clearer picture of our opening timeframe by this weekend or very early next week.

Now, to start building the spring golf season hype, we’re offering a pair of contests giving you the chance to win two separate prizes:

• $25 gift card for Hayward Golf Club Pro Shop, plus a “Bring A Friend” guest green fee
• $25 gift card for the Caddyshak Bar & Grill, plus a “Bring A Friend” guest green fee

Here’s how you can enter to win: make sure you “Like” the Hayward Golf Club Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/haywardgolfclub) and the Caddyshak Bar & Grill Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/caddyshakbar/). That’s all you need to do! If you have already “Liked” these pages, you’re already in the contest!

Every person who has “Liked” these pages by May 1st will be entered into two separate, randomized drawings (one for the Pro Shop and one for the Caddyshak) to win. The alphabetical “Like” lists will be numbered and an online random number generator (https://www.random.org/) will be used to select the winners.

We will contact the winners via private message to organize the delivery of the prizes!

2019 HGC Golf Leagues

Now that Spring has arrived, the opening of the golf season is just around the corner! We wanted to take the opportunity to give everybody some information about the five core golf leagues offered here at Hayward Golf Club.

Men’s 18-Hole League
Runs on Tuesday mornings from May into September. Read more details HERE.

Women’s 18-Hole League
Runs on Wednesday mornings from May into September. May 1st will be the opening day, with an exciting schedule of events being planned for the season, including a new Member-Guest Day. Registration form HERE.

Men’s 9-Hole League
Runs on Tuesday afternoons from May into September. Read more details HERE.

Women’s 9-Hole League
For the 2019 season, we’re bringing back the Women’s 9-Hole League on Monday afternoons. We’re calling this a league for lack of a better word, but the intention is for this to be an informal and very social golf gathering! Beginning on Monday, May 13th, tee times will start at 1pm. Sign-up in the Pro Shop on a week-to-week basis for the weeks you can play, no need to worry about subs if you can’t make a week.

Couples League
The Couples League at Hayward Golf Club plays on select Sunday afternoons through the late spring and summer. Guests are welcome.

Spring Kick-Off Dinner, May 4th – Save the Date!

As part of our ongoing initiatives for course improvements throughout 2019, our next significant event will be a Spring Kick-Off Dinner on Saturday, May 4th.  In addition to great food and drink, there will be live entertainment courtesy of Sean and Ian Okamoto, as well as a variety of terrific prizes!

New Membership Directory & St. Patrick’s Day Cornhole Tournament!

Introducing the New Membership Directory

As long-time members of Hayward Golf Club will recall, in the past we provided a hard-copy version of our Membership Directory to facilitate contact between members.

Now that so much physical media has been supplanted by the digital space, we wanted to update our Membership Directory for the 21st century, while still giving all of our members the ability to find contact information with ease.

So, if you go to the Hayward Golf Club website (haywardgolf.com), you will notice a tab at the top of the page that says “Membership.” Hover over that, and a dropdown box with the option “Member Directory” will be revealed. Clicking on that will take you to a password login page.

This page is password protected, and passwords will only be given out to members at Hayward Golf Club who are interested.  Obviously, as people sign up for memberships throughout the off- and early season, the directory will continue to be updated.

And as a reminder, with Spring (theoretically!) around the corner, HERE is our 2019 Membership Application Form.

2nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Cornhole Tournament – Saturday, March 16th

Registration will begin at 12:00pm, with bags beginning to fly at 1:00pm.

Format: 2 person teams. Space is limited to the first 24 teams. After three round robin matches, the players will be split into two brackets, championship and social, based on performance during the round robin series.

Cost: $25 dollars per player. Entry includes game play, pizza buffet, and a chance at prize money. Full Cash bar will be available. Team names, uniforms and spectators are encouraged!  Email info@haywardgolf.com if you are interested!

Finally, we wanted to acknowledge a couple big prize winners of our recent Super Bowl Board promotion and watch party.

Super Bowl Watch Party in the Caddyshak Bar & Grill

On Sunday, February 3rd, we’re hosting a Super Bowl Watch Party in the Caddyshak. The bar will open at 4:00pm in anticipation of the game’s kick-off at 5:30pm. Full bar available, select snacks provided, and pizza available to order.

During the festivities, there will be a variety of additional in-game activities that will make watching a non-Packers Super Bowl a little more exciting! There will also be pool, cornhole, and darts available to play throughout the evening.

We want to thank the Men’s 18-Hole League for their generous donation of a new 55-inch Samsung television for the bar to provide exceptional viewing capabilities!

Also, the Super Bowl square board has been filled, and we will be tracking its progress throughout the game, with winners being paid-out at the end of each quarter. You do not have to be present to win.

Course Improvement Initiatives — Super Bowl Square Board and Watch Party

A new committee has been formed at Hayward Golf Club to help raise funds for on-course projects and upgrades at the facility outside of the normal operating budget of the club.

We are looking to raise $25,000 a year for 3 years through a variety of events, fundraisers, and initiatives so that the facility and course can continue to improve while the Board and Staff commit to plans for installing the new irrigation system, which is currently slated to happen in 2020.

Examples of on-course projects coming in 2019 include:
• Extension of the cart path on Hole #9
• New white tee box on Hole #13
• New patio furniture for the Caddyshak Bar & Grill
• Additional assorted improvements

The first of these capital-raising events is already underway in the form of a Super Bowl Square Board in the Pro Shop. The board has 100 squares, and each square costs $25. Each square is associated with a set of secret numbers (to be revealed later), and if your numbers correspond to the score of the game at the end of each of the four quarters, you win!

We’re hosting a Super Bowl Watch Party in the Caddyshak on Sunday, February 3rd, and during the game we’ll be handing out the eight cash payouts of $150 each (2 at the end of each quarter), accounting for 50% of the funds collected, with the remaining 50% of the entry money going towards the 2019 on-course improvements mentioned above. We will also be selecting one random mystery square worth $50 as an additional giveaway!

We will be rolling out additional initiatives as the year progresses, so stay tuned, and we are open to suggestions and recommendations as we look to get the most bang for our buck with the funds raised. We’re happy to take any suggestions!
