Course Tentatively Opening on Saturday, October 31st

It’s been a chilly and snow-covered last week, but if the upcoming forecast is correct, we’re tentatively looking at re-opening the course for play on Saturday, the 31st (with the potential for some additional play beyond that, but we have to see how things go). If everything lines up, we’d be looking at tee times starting around late morning or midday on Saturday and continuing through the afternoon.

As we get closer to the weekend, call the Pro Shop at (715) 634-2760 to get a status report and to check for tee time availability.

Also this weekend, the public is invited to the Caddyshak Bar and Grill. The bar will be open both Saturday and Sunday starting at 11:00am, and will be featuring inventory reduction drink specials, Badger and Packer football on television, and reduced prices on pizza, hot dogs, and brats. There will also be corn hole boards set up in the dinning room. Saturday will feature $2 rail drinks, tap beer, and $2 cans and bottles of beer. Sunday we will drop the price to $1 for beer and rail drinks. Thanks for a great season!

Finally, just a reminder that the 2021 Hayward Open sign-up will kick off at 8:00am on Saturday, October 31st. We will be taking sign-ups by email or phone call, and we expect the spots to go quickly.

2021 Hayward Open Sign-Up Information

The annual tradition at Hayward Golf Club continues in 2021, and we’re ready to offer the first details about next summer’s Hayward Open Golf Tournament! The event will take place over two days on the first weekend of June, 2021 – Saturday, June 5th & Sunday, June 6th.

The cost per golfer is $100 for this 45-hole event (reduced member entry of $80). There is an 18-hole stroke play qualifying round on Saturday, followed by 27 holes on Sunday, with your Saturday score determining if you are in the stroke play or match play brackets. There will be an optional practice round with a giant skins game on Friday, June 4th.

The sign-up for the tournament will open at 8:00am on Saturday, October 31st, 2020. We will be taking sign-ups by email or phone call. We’re cap the field size at 160, and the spots will go fast!

Packers-Vikings Game Square Board / Men’s Leagues Champions

As we’ve done in the last couple years, we’re once again offering a Packers Game Square Board in the Pro Shop; this year’s proceeds will go directly towards the 2021 On-Course Improvement fund. The game in question is the Packers/Vikings game on Sunday, November 1st.

The board has 100 squares, and each square costs $25. Each square is associated with a set of secret numbers (to be revealed later), and if your numbers correspond to the score of the game at the end of each of the four quarters, you win!

Additional details are as follows:

• You can purchase up to 4 squares (or $100 worth).
• Payout will be $250 a quarter ($200 for exact numbers and $50 for reverse numbers)
• We will release board numbers as soon as it is full!

The remaining amount after payouts will go towards the On-Course Improvement Fund.

Clubhouse Operational Update: COVID-19

The HGC clubhouse will be taking extra precautions these next several days after a part-time staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. Effective as of 1pm today, we are operating contact-free at the Pro Shop and Caddyshak, with all indoor facilities closed (with the exception of the bathrooms, which will still be accessible).

As we await further test results from other employees — who are being tested out of an abundance of caution, as exposure to the positive staff member has been limited over the last two weeks — hopefully by the end of this week, we will be functioning much as we did in the spring, asking for members and guests to check-in with the Pro Shop by phone (or by stopping at the Pro Shop window), and also to conduct any monetary transactions over the phone as much as possible, as well.

To make this process as quick and efficient as possible, we offer the ability for members and guests to put a credit card on file with us, or to establish an AR account. If there are any questions regarding how all this works, contact us by phone at (715) 634-2760, or via email (proshop@haywardgolf.com).

During the indoor closure, the interior clubhouse areas will be extensively cleaned. Also, the Caddyshak Bar & Grill will offer service exclusively outside on our patio area.

We ask that customers and members work with us and be patient during this time as we operate under some very unusual circumstances. We fully expect the quality of the product on the golf course itself to remain very high!

We’re committed to making sure that Hayward Golf Club is a safe place for guests, members, and staff, and this remains our top priority. We will continue to keep everyone up-to-speed as the situation develops.

Lastly, the Hayward Civic Club’s Annual Meeting will still be taking place tonight, outside on the Caddyshak patio, and intended to be very brief. A vote on new By-Laws will be taking place, as well as the finalizing of the Board of Directors election.

The Hayward Civic Club Annual Meeting on Monday, August 24th (held at 7:00pm outdoors on the Caddyshak patio, weather permitting) will involve the election to fill spots on the current board, with 1 open seat and 2 incumbents running for re-election. Members are encouraged to attend, and this is particularly important this year because new By-Laws will be voted on, and the attendance of approximately 32 members is required for a quorum.

HGC COVID-19 Update

Members and Guests of Hayward Golf Club,

The Board of Directors and Staff would like to make everyone aware that an employee of the grounds crew has tested positive for COVID-19.  This individual has not been working with the grounds crew for the last 11 days.

The course is requiring all of the grounds crew staff to be tested, and those grounds employees that worked closely with the individual are self-quarantining until receiving test results.

At this point, we feel good about the procedures we have in place to keep workers home if not feeling well, as well as to follow CDC guidelines for how to handle such situations.  Pro Shop and Caddyshak staff are wearing masks while indoors, and we continue to ask that all members and guests do the same while inside the clubhouse.

This is obviously an unusual circumstance for everyone, and we will do our best to continue to be as transparent and forthcoming as we possibly can.

Wanted: Board of Directors Candidates

We’re putting out one final push for any members who might be interested in running for our Board of Directors. This year there is 1 open seat, along with 2 incumbents seeking re-election. The Board meets 10 to 11 times a year, and no board member shall miss more than three meetings yearly and no more than two meetings in a row. There is a conference call-in system for those not able to be physically present.

The deadline to apply as a candidate is this Friday morning, August 14th. If you are an interested member, or know a member who might be, contact the Pro Shop, or submit a short bio and resume to the Pro Shop.

Irrigation Project Video Update / Board of Directors Openings / Mask Policy at HGC

We’re making excellent progress on the installation of our new double-row irrigation system. Here’s a brief video highlighting the work that has been done so far! This system will provide for an even higher standard of the excellent conditions you’ve come to expect from Hayward Golf Club.

Finally, in accordance with the masking order by Wisconsin’s governor, Hayward Golf Club is now requesting that guests and members wear masks while inside the Pro Shop and the clubhouse whenever possible (masks not required while seated for eating and drinking).

The Caddyshak’s outdoor patio will continue to be a great option for enjoying a meal, snack, or drink!

Couples Club Championship Rescheduled — Sunday, August 23rd

The Couples Club Championship has been moved to Sunday, August 23rd. As such, there’s still time to sign-up! Tee times will be available between 12pm and 1pm. Other pertinent details found HERE remain the same.

Women’s and Men’s Club Championships — August 15th and 16th

With August approaching, it’s time to start thinking about the Women’s and Men’s Club Championships! Both will be two-day events this year, and it’s going to be a full Championship Weekend, with both tournaments taking place on Saturday, August 15th, and Sunday, August 16th.

The Women’s Club Championship will be open to all female members of Hayward Golf Club, including Social Members. The entry fee is $30 per player for food, prizes, and trophy.

The Men’s Club Championship will be open to all male members of Hayward Golf Club, including Social Members. On Saturday, you can play golf with whichever other golfers you’d like. You will already be flighted, but you can build your own foursome with anybody (or have Pro Shop staff help put you into a group if you’d prefer). Pairings for Sunday will be posted on Saturday evening based on the Saturday round’s results.

We will have a Senior Division for golfers ages 62 and over with a separate Senior Club Champion. So whatever level of skill you’re at, whatever your handicap might be, or which tee box you like to play from, there will be a flight for you to be competitive in! Entry fee is $45, which includes food, prizes, and trophy.

Tee times for both events will run between 11am and 1:30pm on Saturday, and 8:30am through 11am on Sunday.

Also, if you’ve played our course within the last couple of weeks, you will already be aware of the new GPS system that’s been installed on our fleet of golf carts; for those of you who haven’t, here’s a quick video overview of the system and some of its features!

Summer Classic Results

We want to thank everybody who took part in this past weekend’s Summer Classic here at HGC!  It really has become one of our centerpiece events for the Club, and we hope all had a terrific time.
