Men’s Club Championship – August 19th and 20th

As we roll into August, it’s time to start thinking about our Men’s Club Championship, which will take place over two days – Saturday, August 19th and Sunday, August 20th – and which will be open to all male members of Hayward Golf Club.

We’ve cooked up a slightly different format this year to both add a little spice to things and to make the event more accommodating to all ability levels.

On that Saturday, you can play golf with whichever other golfers you’d like. You will already be flighted, but you can build your own foursome with anybody (or have Pro Shop staff help put you into a group if you’d prefer). Tee times will run from 11:30am to 2:00pm, with dinner to follow play on Saturday evening. During dinner, we will reveal the pairings and tee times for Sunday’s second round, which will run between 9:0oam and 11:30am.

The Champion will not only receive a trophy, but also a designated parking space reserved just for the champ!

We are also going to have a Senior Division this year for golfers ages 65 and above, so for the first time ever we will have a Senior Club Champion!

Whatever level of skill you’re at, whatever your handicap might be or which tee box you like to play from, there will be a flight for you to be competitive in.

During Men’s League this coming Tuesday would be a great time to sign up! Otherwise, call or stop in at the Pro Shop at your convenience!

Women’s Club Championship – August 2nd and 9th

Our annual Women’s Club Championship will be held on two consecutive Wednesdays, the 2nd and 9th of August. Open to all female members at Hayward Golf Club, the cost is $30 per player for food, prizes, and trophy. It’s a great event every year, and we’re looking to make it even greater! Joe Kuta Senior Men’s Tournament Reminder

A few spots still remain open for our Joe Kuta Senior on Saturday, August 5th! Call the Pro Shop to sign up if you’re interested! “The Kuta” one of our most popular tournaments each summer, so if you’re on the fence, take the plunge and sign up!

Roller Board Update

We continue to get very positive feedback about the condition of our greens thanks to our new roller. Our 100 square roller board (details HERE) is still filling up, currently sitting at 61% full. Stop in the Pro Shop to help with this important course improvement and to sign up for a chance to win some big bucks.

 

Lastly, we wanted to give a shout-out to our Couples Champions: Mark and Linda Klett were the gross champs, while Greg and Teresa Konat were the net champs! Congratulations to them, and thanks to all who participated in the championship this year!

Joe Kuta Senior Tournament – August 5th
On Saturday, August 5th, we will be holding our annual Joe Kuta Senior Tournament. Open to golfers age 50 and older and flighted by handicap, “The Kuta,” as it has come to be known, is a terrific event and one of the highlights of the summer season!

Entry is $25 for members (which includes meal and prizes) and $45 for guests (which includes green fee, meal, and prizes), with an optional skins game. Tee times are available from 8:45am through 11:00am.

Couples Club Championship
A final reminder that this coming Sunday, July 23rd, is the Couples Club Championship. Utilizing the Chapman alternate shot format and open to the membership, this is a great event for couples to have a fun round of golf together on the course. Entry per couple is $35, which includes prizes, trophies, and two drink tees which are redeemable in the Caddyshak Bar for one drink each. Tee times start at 12:00pm.

We’re putting the word out about upcoming vacancies on the Hayward Golf Club/Hayward Civic Club Board of Directors. Any members who would like to become a more active part of the club are encouraged to step forward. An annual tradition, our Couples Club Championship will be held on Sunday, July 23rd, with tee times starting at 12:00pm. Open to the membership, this is a great event for couples to have a fun round of golf together on the course. Entry per couple is $35, which includes prizes, trophies, and two drink tees which are redeemable in the Caddyshak Bar for one drink each.

Roller Board Update

Our 100 square roller board (details HERE) is currently 44% full, so there’s still a chance for you to get in on the action to help support our new greens roller, which has provided terrific smoothness and improved speed on our golf course’s greens!  This provides a great opportunity for members and friends of Hayward Golf Club to come together to help make this dramatic course improvement a lasting change for years to come!  Stop in the Pro Shop to sign up.

Independence Day News and Updates: Wine Tasting, Salvation Army Benefit, and More

Just a reminder that our Wine Tasting event is taking place this coming Saturday, July 8th, out on the Caddyshak Bar & Grill’s patio and pergola area (weather permitting; if we get rain, we will move into the dining room and the bar). Guests will have the chance to sample a variety of different red and white wines, and hors d’oeuvres will be served, as well. Entry per person is $20, which will entitle you to try up to 4 wines out of the following 9 selections:

• Tiki Tonga Draft/House Sangria
• Rheinhessen Riesling
• Candoni Pinot Grigio
• Butterfield Station Chardonnay
• Sileni Estates Sauvignon Blanc
• Mark West Black Pinot Noir
• Campus Oaks Old Vine Zinfandel

• Casa Smith Barbera

The event will run from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. We are encouraging those interested in attending to RSVP by Friday, July 7th, but we’re not going to turn away walk-ins on the 8th. Call the Pro Shop at (715) 634-2760 to sign up or to get more information.

Also, we wanted to bring our upcoming Salvation Army Golf Benefit to your attention. It will take place on Friday, July 14th, with a shotgun start at 12:00pm. The event will be a scramble format, and the proceeds this year will go to Elizabeth’s Home of Hope to aid their efforts in helping the homeless. The cost to enter the event is $75 per person, which includes golf, door prizes, and dinner.

Above all, have a safe and happy Independence Day! Enjoy the fireworks display put on by the Hayward Civic Club tonight at 10:00pm. Prime viewing areas are available in the field behind the Primary and Intermediate Schools, and the Caddyshak Bar and patio seating area will also be open for possibly the best views of the show anywhere!
