Festive Winter Activities: Indoor Cornhole Championship and More!

It may not look like it outside yet, but the holiday season is upon us! We’re getting into the spirit of things by announcing some new indoor activities.

Cornhole Championship

Saturday, December 30th. Registration at 1:30pm. Matches start at 2pm.

Format: 2 person teams. Space is limited to the first 24 teams.
Blind draw preliminary rounds followed by playoff and championship rounds.

Cost $ 20 dollars per player.

Entry includes minimum of 3 games, snacks, and prize money for top 3 teams. Full Cash bar will be available. Team names, uniforms and spectators are encouraged!

This event is open to the general public.

Two-Man Cribbage League

Starting Thursday, January 4th, we will be holding a Two-Man Cribbage league in the Caddyshak Bar & Grill on a weekly basis. More details will follow in a subsequent email, but we are aiming for the league to play until early March.

Thank You For A Great Year!

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Hayward Golf Club staff, and Caddyshak Bar & Grill staff, thank you for a great season! While the weather may not have always cooperated as fully as we might have liked, this season saw the golf course conditions as good as they’ve ever been (especially later into the year), and we were also able to make a pair of significant course upgrades that will provide benefits for years to come: the new tee box on Hole 12 and the new greens roller.

So again, thank you! We can’t wait to see you all again starting next spring!

One last reminder: the sign-up period for 2018’s Hayward Open Tournament begins at 7:00am tomorrow – Tuesday, October 31st. We will be manning the phones in the Pro Shop, so be sure to call in (715-634-2760) to reserve your spot. It’s an annual tradition, after all!

2018 Hayward Open Sign-Up Information!

In a renewal of what has been a decades-long tradition here at Hayward Golf Club, we’re excited to offer the first details about next summer’s hotly anticipated Hayward Open Golf Tournament! The event will take place over two days on the first weekend of June, 2018 – Saturday, June 2nd & Sunday, June 3rd.

The cost per golfer is $95 for this 45-hole event. There is an 18-hole stroke play qualifying round on Saturday, followed by 27 holes on Sunday with your Saturday score determining if you are in the stroke play or match play brackets. There will be an optional practice round with a giant skins game on Friday, June 1st.

As has been customary, the sign-up for the event will open at 7:00am on Tuesday, October 31st, 2017. We will be taking sign-ups by email or phone call. We cap the field size at 144, and the spots will go fast!

This is a great event every year, and we look forward to seeing what 2018’s field will bring!

Fall Golf

The fall season is in full swing, but our course conditions are still excellent. We came through greens aeration incredibly well, and the condition is as good as it was during the summer. We will be open for play through the 31st of this month – Halloween – so come on out and take advantage of the condition and our fall rates:

The restaurant portion of the Caddyshak will be closing for the season on October 15th, but the bar will remain in operation through the end of the golf season on Halloween.

At the annual meeting on Monday, September 11th, the 2017/2018 Board of Directors election results were finalized.  The following members were elected to serve terms:

ABC Scramble Info and Fall Promos

“Joe’s ABC Scramble” – Saturday, September 16th

As he has done for the past several years, Joe Richie is putting together another fun scramble event. There will be three-man teams (comprised of A, B, and C-level players, and which will be created by the organizers) competing in a scramble format.

Entry for members is $45 per player, and entry for non-members is $75 per player (cart fee not included). The entry fees will cover a substantial payout and a sizable skins game pot.

Fall Membership Promotion Reminder

As we have for the past three years, we’re excited to once again offer our Fall Membership Promotion. Greens Roller Board – The Final Countdown!

We’ve entered the exciting final stages of our greens roller fundraiser (full details HERE). With only 15 spots remaining to achieve our goal, the heat is on and the final countdown has begun!

Time is now of the essence, so if you have been considering helping the cause (and potentially winning a major payout of your own), now is the time to sign up and get your name on the board!

The actual selection of the winners during the Packers game on September 10th – following the Brian Clifford Memorial Golf Outing (details HERE if you’re interested in potentially playing) – should make for a terrific and fun day; we’re going to be hosting a gathering in the Caddyshak’s bar to watch the game and reveal the big prize winners.

We truly appreciate all the support we’ve received from both the membership and guests for this project, and we think the improved condition of our greens as a result of the new roller represents a significant upgrade for our facility, one which maintains Hayward Golf Club’s position as one of the best-maintained golf courses in northern Wisconsin.

Men’s Club Championship and Roller Board Updates

Men’s Club Championship – August 19th and 20th

A reminder that the sign-up period for our Men’s Club Championship is still underway, with the event scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 19th and Sunday, August 20th (more details HERE).

Members, start talking with your friends about putting together groups for the Saturday round. We’re very excited about the event, and the new Senior division of the Club Championship, which will allow golfers ages 65 and over to play a tee box they are comfortable with, and play with golfers of similar ability levels. We’re also looking for a couple more members to participate in the Gold Division of the Championship, as well.

Cost per player is $40, which includes dinner on Saturday evening, prizes, trophy, and a special cash game!

Roller Board Update

As we approach a month out from the Packers/Seahawks game (which will be the culmination of this effort), we wanted to give another status update of our 100-Square Roller Prize Board, which is currently sitting at 69% full.

If you don’t feel comfortable buying a whole $100 square, think about splitting the amount with another person and/or a foursome!

Men’s Club Championship – August 19th and 20th

As we roll into August, it’s time to start thinking about our Men’s Club Championship, which will take place over two days – Saturday, August 19th and Sunday, August 20th – and which will be open to all male members of Hayward Golf Club.

We’ve cooked up a slightly different format this year to both add a little spice to things and to make the event more accommodating to all ability levels.

On that Saturday, you can play golf with whichever other golfers you’d like. You will already be flighted, but you can build your own foursome with anybody (or have Pro Shop staff help put you into a group if you’d prefer). Tee times will run from 11:30am to 2:00pm, with dinner to follow play on Saturday evening. During dinner, we will reveal the pairings and tee times for Sunday’s second round, which will run between 9:0oam and 11:30am.

The Champion will not only receive a trophy, but also a designated parking space reserved just for the champ!

We are also going to have a Senior Division this year for golfers ages 65 and above, so for the first time ever we will have a Senior Club Champion!

Whatever level of skill you’re at, whatever your handicap might be or which tee box you like to play from, there will be a flight for you to be competitive in.

During Men’s League this coming Tuesday would be a great time to sign up! Otherwise, call or stop in at the Pro Shop at your convenience!

On Saturday, August 5th, we will be holding our annual Joe Kuta Senior Tournament. Open to golfers age 50 and older and flighted by handicap, “The Kuta,” as it has come to be known, is a terrific event and one of the highlights of the summer season!

Entry is $25 for members (which includes meal and prizes) and $45 for guests (which includes green fee, meal, and prizes), with an optional skins game. Tee times are available from 8:45am through 11:00am.

Couples Club Championship

Independence Day News and Updates: Wine Tasting, Salvation Army Benefit, and More

Just a reminder that our Wine Tasting event is taking place this coming Saturday, July 8th, out on the Caddyshak Bar & Grill’s patio and pergola area (weather permitting; if we get rain, we will move into the dining room and the bar). Guests will have the chance to sample a variety of different red and white wines, and hors d’oeuvres will be served, as well. Entry per person is $20, which will entitle you to try up to 4 wines out of the following 9 selections:

The event will be a scramble format, and the proceeds this year will go to Elizabeth’s Home of Hope to aid their efforts in helping the homeless. The cost to enter the event is $75 per person, which includes golf, door prizes, and dinner.

Above all, have a safe and happy Independence Day! Enjoy the fireworks display put on by the Hayward Civic Club tonight at 10:00pm. Also, we wanted to let everyone know that the Caddyshak’s bar will be open through the evening on Tuesday, July 4th, leading up to the fireworks show at 10pm. Our patio will provide incredible views of the fireworks, so come on out! Our lot by the Caddyshak offers easy parking, as well.

Course Improvements and Greens Roller Fundraiser

As some of you may know, we’re in the process of rebuilding a tee box on hole number 12. Progress is continuing, and our head superintendent believes it could be in use by sometime in September!  Here are a couple of pictures of the ongoing work.

Greens Roller Fundraiser

We had the opportunity to demo a greens roller over the Memorial Day and Hayward Open weekends, and the response was very positive to the improved condition of the greens. As such, with the overwhelmingly positive reaction, we are planning to invest in a roller of our own, something which was not budgeted for in 2017 but will represent a tremendous course improvement for us, bringing increased smoothness, speed, and healthier greens to Hayward Golf Club.

We are kicking off a fundraiser that will not only allow you to support this important step for our course, but will also give you a chance to win some big bucks.

As you can see above, we’ve got a square board up in the pro shop. Each square costs $100 and will entitle you to a chance to win. We’re hosting a Packers party on September 10th for the Packers/Seahawks game, and during the game we’ll be giving away four cash payouts of $1,000, with the remainder of the entry money going towards the purchase of the greens roller.

This is the setup: each square is associated with a set of secret numbers (to be revealed later), and if your numbers correspond to the score of the game at the end of each of the four quarters, you win $1,000 (for each quarter!).  In total, this fundraiser will account for about half of the money we need for the roller, and the club will make up the difference.

It should be a really fun event and will go towards helping elevate our club to an even greater height!
